We Are to Keep our Lives Current

Yesterdays are gone, they will never be repeated and yet the past holds great power in our lives in areas of unrepented sin and unforgiveness. The pain of yesterday too often dictates to our lives today and when we hold on to areas of hatred, bitterness and resentment we are only hurting ourselves. The people who have hurt us go on with their lives and we remain crippled by all the luggage of the past. We can’t change the things that have happen to us but we can change the tomorrows as we choose to do things God’s way. Being held in the past will keep us from going on with God.

Until we humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God we will remain captive in our own personal prison. We need to realize that nothing that has happened to us, no matter how tragic our circumstances, can compare with our sin that sent Jesus to the cross. On the cross He paid the full price for the sins of the world and without His paying our ransom, we would all die in our sins. If we are going to accept Christ’s finished work of the cross we can also forgive others. We do this by telling God we choose by an act of our will – disregarding our emotions. It will always be our choice to forgive the ones who have hurt us. We must repent as well for our many wrong responses in every given situation. We must also forgive ourselves for the wrong choices we have made in our yesterdays.

By an act of faith we are confess our sins, for He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God will receive our repentance and He will forgive us as we have forgiven others. The yesterdays will fall away as we seek to live each day as a new day in Christ Jesus.

Matthew 18:21-22
Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive Him? Up to seven times?”
