Discipline

There is so much the Lord wants to give us, but because we lack discipline He cannot trust us with things in His kingdom. As much as we would like to have the Lord drop self-discipline into our laps it will never happen in this way. Instead, if we would allow the Lord to build up our time with Him gradually, we would find success. However, too often we decide to give Him a big block of time, but we find we can’t be faithful except for a few days or weeks because other things will soon clamor for our time. If we ask the Lord’s help He will help us to be disciplined in small ways. He may begin by asking us to pray for five minutes a day and in a week or two He may ask for ten minutes and gradually increase our time.

This way the Lord is cultivating a permanent lifestyle so the Holy Spirit can increase us, as we are ready. Discipline is the very core of life for those who want to move on in a constructive life with Jesus.  God has called us to be disciples, which means “the disciplined ones.”

Hebrew 12:1-2
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
